Versioning and Time Travel
All resources on MolMeth are versioned and no information is ever deleted. When something is changed it will be saved as a new version and if something is deleted it will only be hidden from the user. This allows you to turn back time and look at the site as it were at a specific point in time.
However, the versioning of protocols is more sophosticated and is explained in the protocol versions and publishing section below.
Going back in time
To go back in time use the date control in the top right corner of the page. Click the ”change” link and enter a new date (YYYY-MM-DD) or date and time (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM). If you don't specify time MolMeth will display the page as it looked at the end of the requested day.
To get back to present time click the ”change” link again and then the ”current” link. You can also click the calendar icon as a short cut.
Changing and restoring old information
Naturally you cannot make any modifications to the past. What happens if you edit a resource in past time is that you create a new version at the current time based on the old information you saw in the form (with the potential changes you made).
New resources will also be created at current time rather than in the past.
Protocol versions and publishing
When you make a new protocol or decide to create a newer version you will start working in unpublished mode. Changes made in this mode will not render a new version and will not be visible to the public until you are done editing and the new version is checked and approved by the MolMeth team. When the protocol is ready click the link ”Publish protocol” in the development mode box at the top of the page to notify the MolMeth team who will publish it for you.
Public
Why must I wait for your approval?
The approval system is made to ensure that no inappropriate or irrelevant material is placed on the site and to help contributors make use of MolMeth's many features. Protocols can come in many forms and we want to make sure they are structured and formatted in a consistent manner.
